It comes down to parts and specific technical company knowledge. Yes, a competent watchmaker with good basic watchmaking skills can perform the job. When it comes time to change a worn out part within the movement will they make do and send it on its way? Or will they source the correct part, replace it, and ensure that it continues to operate in the same way you originally bought it from Omega?

As you brought up earlier you take your Mercedes to a competent mechanic which probably can source genuine OEM parts if needed right? The same is not true with huge watch manufactures and independent watchmakers. Most companies forbid the sale of genuine replacement parts and restrict them to certified repairman, and in the case of Omega, that list grows shorter and shorter every month.

Bottom line is this, Omega has a huge after-sales structure that has the correct tools, parts, and watchmakers to do the job right. For an item like a mechanical timepiece which will be running constantly 24hrs a day 7 days a week, don’t you think its a good investment to take it to Omega for repair?
